5 Celebrity Moms Talk About Postpartum Weight Loss

The urgency to lose the baby weight in Hollywood is almost as serious as an Oscar win.

Who dropped the postpartum pounds the fastest? Who debuted their post-baby body on a magazine cover? How much did she gain during her pregnancy?

Some of our favorite celebrity moms – including Drew Barrymore, Jessica Simpson and Gwyneth Paltrow – are sounding off on this buzzed about topic.

Drew Barrymore:

Former child star Drew Barrymore recently sat down with talk show queen Oprah Winfrey and opened up about husband Will Kopelman and their 4-month-old daughter Olive.

“Absolutely not. I want nothing to do with that hamster wheel from hell,” Drew said of quickly dropping the baby weight to appease Hollywood’s standards.

She added: “It seems miserable. I want to be healthy enough that I feel good mentally and I don’t care what the weight is,” the E.T. star said.

Gwyneth Paltrow:

Mom-of-two Gwyneth Paltrow supported her good pal, celebrity trainer Tracy Anderson, at her Pregnancy Project event in New York City last Fall.

“You can really put the pressure on yourself I didn’t,” Gwyneth has said of shedding her postpartum pounds after giving birth to her now 8-year-old daughter Apple and son Moses, 6.

The Academy Award-winning actress said that she revelled in new motherhood and took her time to lose those last few pounds.

“I was at home in sweatpants and breastfeeding for a long time,” Gwyneth shared. “I really took my time. And when I started to want to get back into shape, I was so thankful to find Tracy.”

Tracy Anderson:

Celebrity trainer Tracy Anderson recently launched her Pregnancy Project workout DVD collection, providing women with safe and effective fitness routines during the pre-and-postnatal periods.

Tracy tells Celebrity Baby Scoop that these DVDs – which she filmed during her recent pregnancy with daughter Penelope – are a “passion project” that are “really needed for women.”

The fitness guru – who has an impressive client list including Gwyneth Paltrow, Madonna, Molly Sims and Christy Turlington – opened up about losing the 33 pounds she gained in just 11 weeks.

“I’ve spent thirteen years creating this fitness method for women and I use it myself, so I really credit the method for staying fit in the prenatal and postnatal stages,” Tracy shared with Celebrity Baby Scoop.

“In my first pregnancy 14 years ago, I gained 60 pounds and it was the most nightmarish thing to get off,” she added. “I was so happy to not have to worry about going into pregnancy this time; I knew what I was doing. I followed my own advice during this second pregnancy and gained around 33 pounds. I was able to lose it all in about eleven weeks.”

Jessica Simpson:

Jessica Simpson‘s 50-pound weight gain during her first pregnancy was one of the most talked-about topics of last year.

The Fashion Star mentor recently graced the January/February 2013 cover of Weight Watchers magazine, showing off her weight loss after the May 1 arrival of her daughter Maxwell.

“I really have to separate myself from the world’s expectations and really just be healthy with myself,” Jessica shared. “I’m not a supermodel. My body is not bouncing back like a supermodel. I’m just your everyday woman.”

And all eyes are on the singer-turned-entrepreneur again. On Christmas Day, Jessica confirmed her second pregnancy by sharing a picture of baby Maxwell with the words “Big Sis” written in the sand in front of her.

Kendra Wilkinson:

Former Playboy model Kendra Wilkinson welcomed her first child, son Hank, with football star husband Hank Baskett in December 2009.

The Girls Next Door star opened up to Celebrity Baby Scoop about the media’s focus on her body during the pre-and-postnatal stages.

“The media is the media. They’re going to do what they please. I’m okay with it,” said Kendra of the constant criticism of her weight.

“I had to really look deep into myself and think more about myself,” she added. “I’m a deep thinker and there’s this thing I always think about: what if today, mirrors just went away. What if your reflection just went away? What if I had no pictures of myself? Would I feel great, would I feel pretty? And the answer is: yes I would. The mirror can play tricks on you.”
