Welcome to our DIY Crafts series! DIY Crafts is focused on crafts that we have done, crafts that we will do and crafts that others have done that I feel deserve the “Craft Spotlight“. I invite you to check back often as I share these projects with you. You can view all of the DIY Crafts by visiting our DIY and Arts & Crafts section.

OH. MY. GOSH.
These are ridiculously cute!!!
Wow, what an awesome idea!!
These are AWESOME! I love the mustache one haha
This is so great! I can’t imagine how easy to make your own mouse pad. It’s a good thing that I saw your post. The mustache design is a cute design. I am glad that I can follow your instruction easily. This is very useful for me.
Now I know what to do with all of that cork I have, thanks!
Could scrapbook paper be used for this project?? Maybe with a little ModPodge?? Has anyone tried this?
Thx,
Sara
I haven’t used mod podge on cork, but I’ll bet it works great!
what a great idea…i must make some
Let us know if you do!
I sure will. I need a new one and hope to make some to put in Christmas gift baskets for family this year…I’ll see if I can personalize them with something cute…thanks :)
Your project is so cute! I was so excited to make some for stocking stuffers. I can’t get the heat n bond to stick to the cork though. What could I be doing wrong? I’m using Heat n Bond ultra hold iron on adhesive, my iron is on the cotton setting, and no steam.
This is SO cute! What a great gift idea and I think I need to make one for myself!!
when i went to print your design, it didn’t fullfill a page. Only part of it showed up. any suggestions?
Maybe try saving it to your computer (right click on the picture and save) then opening and printing it?
that worked, thanks!
Wow, Very cool and I am now worried that the paint is going to wear off my desk (as it looks suspiciously like yours, $25 from ikea?) Must make one pronto!
Yep, same desk! I use my computer a LOT because of my work, but I’ve heard of a lot of people with the same complaint. Glad you found this in time to save your desk!
Ummm this is amazing! I must know how you did the lettering for the stache pad!
Is there something other than the heat and bond I could use? I have been looking but cant find it anywhere :( Maybe mod podge or a type of glue? thanks!
Both Mod Podge and hot glue would work to adhere, but will not give you a smooth, soft surface. Mod Podge makes fabric rough, and hot glue tends to leave bumps behind. Walmart carries heat and bond rolls in their fabric and crafting section.
Thanks!
Your project ROCKS! I just wanted to let you know I featured it today on “You Sew Rock Me Fridays” on my blog Sew Rockin’. You can view the post here: http://wp.me/p1VAkT-mG.
I absolutely love this idea – your mousepads are so cute! I featured your post on Scraplifters: http://www.scraplifters.com/diy-mousepad-using-cork-board.html. Now I have to decide between the heat n bond + fabric or the mod podge + paper! Thanks for the inspiration!
I want to make one but with a picture on it. Any ideas?!
If you wanted to stick with the fabric route as I did here, then you could print out a picture onto white fabric using my printing on fabric method, found here:
http://moderndaymoms.com/make-it-yourself-monday-printing-on-fabric/
I am wanting to do this for my husband and i to have at our desks at work! I am wondering if any fabric will do or if there is a certain fabric you have to use for this project! Thanks for the idea and your help!
I’m sure it would work with many different kinds of fabric! I use cotton, myself. I would say stay away from stretchy, or satin-y or thick fabrics though.
