Just because it’s your child’s birthday, doesn’t mean you have to spend an arm and a leg on a fancy cake, especially if you’ve already spent a fortune on decorations. From DIY party decorations to adorable party favors for the kids to take home, it’s easy to come up with a theme that will please both you and your child especially if you take the time to browse the Betty Crocker Birthday Hub for your inspiration. You can find a lot of great ideas on the website. Not everything has to be a specific cartoon theme either, you can base your child’s party off their favorite color or animal although sometimes they may have a specific request like a Hello Kitty Birthday Cake! My favorite thing to do is browse the internet and cookbooks for party inspiration.
Here is an easy way to create an adorable Hello Kitty Birthday Cake using Betty Crocker cake mix & frosting!
First step is to bake the cake per the boxed directions. We used Betty Crocker Super Moist Butter Recipe Chocolate Cake Mix. It’s delish! Of course we picked chocolate since my daughter loves it so much, but any flavor will work. Use your favorite Hello Kitty cake pan! Once the cake is done baking, let it cool for at least 30 minutes or more. Next up, fill the cake with fruit filling! Because the cake is one layer, you can fill the cake like you would a cupcake… using a piping bag and smaller tip (or a large zippered baggy with a tiny hole cut in the bottom corner)
For decorating the cake, you can use icing color gel and decoration frosting or you can make the cake solid and smooth. It’s really up to you. For decorating the cake, we used Betty Crocker Whipped Frosting Fluffy White because of it’s pure white color!
Make sure you set some time aside to decorate the cake as it may be tough to work on this while interrupted, especially if you have kids running around :)
Hope you enjoy!
