DIY Mason Jar Hand Soap

I love using mason jars for a variety of things. From drinking glasses to vases, there’s no denying the fact that they are cheap, look country-chic and have multiple uses.

A quick search will show you that this is not an uncommon way to display hand soap. As a matter of fact, Bath & Body Works actually sells soap in mason jars like this one.

It’s adorable and super cute but with a price tag of $12, I couldn’t help but think how many mason jars I could buy instead. Which is exactly what I did.

For $12, you can buy 12 mason jars which are found online at Walmart.com or you can most likely find them at Target and local craft stores.

After you get your mason jars, buy 12 hand soap bottles from the dollar store to make this project less than $30 and the end result is 12 mason jars full of soap that make perfect Christmas gifts!

For this project, I started out with 3 mason jars for demonstration. I threw in a blue one because I love these jars. These are the limited anniversary edition and I love the way they look.

Get everything together that you will need for this project.

I used the following:
Mason Jars
Hand Soap (using the soap and the pump, discarding (and recycling) the bottle.
Nails of various width
A plastic marker (with a lid)
Hammer

I’m going to be honest here… getting the hole the right width is a little tricky so just play it by ear. First, mark where you’d like the hole to be for the soap pump:

Next, hammer a nail into the lid to get started:

Next, move up to a larger nail, and then a larger nail, etc etc. Basically, you want the soap pump to fit snug into the lid. If the hole is too big, the pump will move around.

We used anything we could find to make the hole bigger until the pump was able to be pushed (with force) into place.

It’s not pretty underneath but nobody will see that part!

Pour your soap in and admire. There are many different variations of this project. You can spray paint the lids, you could even spray paint the mason jars but ultimately, I decided to keep it simple.
