“February 17 is Random Acts of Kindness Day”

There’s a lot to love about February! Of course, you’ve got Valentine’s Day, but did you know February 17 is Random Acts of Kindness Day, too?

I’ve been making it a point to do one random act of kindness a day, and noted that not only can it make others feel better but it makes me feel good as well. One such act I’ve started taking part in is giving to the homeless. Not just my money, but my attention, conversation and time. So many people look past the homeless as a burden or ignore them as an inconvenience, but these people may just have hit hard times and could use a friendly face, a few bucks and some conversation.

I’m not proud to admit, but years ago I never really gave to the homeless. Maybe I was indignant and smug about their situation not really knowing what it was like to go without. However, it wasn’t until a homeless veteran shared a conversation with my family one day that I realized how wrong I was. It’s very easy to ignore and walk past other humans in need of help, but that’s no longer the example I want to set for my own children. From that moment on I always tried to help the homeless when I could.

Now, not only do I try to share my extra change with those in need, I’ll buy meals, donate to shelters, and volunteer in ways I didn’t know about before. My kids too have noticed this and asked if they could donate some of their chore money to the homeless. My oldest even said the feeling she gets from randomly helping those in need is way better than getting a toy.

Another way you can help those in need is donating items like diapers to the homeless, women’s shelters, or your local charity.

Right now, you can get an instant savings of $8 off the purchase of 2 Pampers products at Sam’s Club. Plus, you can get a $10 Sam’s Club eGift Card when you purchase $50 worth of Pampers.

You can take advantage of savings on Pampers at Sam’s Club by donating diapers to your local diaper bank, women’s shelter, etc. around Random Acts of Kindness Day.

Not only does participating in random acts of kindness help those in need, but it makes you feel good too knowing you’re doing your part to make the world a better place.
