“Kids & Cell Phones: What Age Is Appropriate?”

If it was up to my daughter, she would already have a cellphone. It seems that kids are getting electronic devices at a younger age. I remember growing up just wishing I had a cellphone and really, I didn’t get my first mobile device until I was 18 years old.

These days, I see kids as young as 6 carrying around a cellphone but I get it.. my daughter has no problem showing her grandma how to use tech gadgets. It amazes me! For those who absolutely need to get in touch with their kids, there is a great solution and one that will work good for your family. I’m talking about kajeet

The only prepaid wireless service that meets the needs and concerns of kids and parents. kajeet™ allow parents to manage their kid’s cell phone usage with phones that come installed with kajeet’s free parental controls. These controls allow parents to set limits on their kid’s cell phone texting, picture messaging and websites accessed via the cell phone, as well as manage what phone numbers calls/text can be made to and received from. Phones are also installed with a GPS Phone Locator that allows parents to locate the phone if lost or stolen. The GPS Phone Locator feature can be set up to send parents a daily email that gives parents the location of the phone.

Additionally, kajeet’s cell phones also allow parents to control the time of day their kid can use their cell phone. For example, if little Johnny is in school from 9am to 2pm, parents can set preferences for when the phone can be used (or not used) and who the phone can receive calls from. Say good bye to your kid getting their phone taken while in school or not getting enough sleep, because they are up texting in the wee hours of the morning (parents can block late night hours, too, without even needing to access the phone, just by using any computer browser).

All parental controls are set by parents using kajeet’s online user interface.

What are the benefits of kajeet?

  • Parents can control or block inappropriate web content on their child’s cell phone
  • Manage text and picture messaging on their child’s cell phone
  • Set up time blocks for when the phone can be used (i.e., if they are in school, parents can disable calls + text)
  • All kajeet phones come installed with GPS to allow parents to locate the phone (or their kid) if it’s lost or stolen
  • Variety of affordable service plans so you can find the right one for your family
  • Cancel anytime. No Contracts or Termination Fees

Now that I am a new mom this question has come up. I have a lot of years to think about it and who knows maybe cell phones will be completely different when my kids get old enough….I think over 16.

Thanks for this post and for telling me about Kejeet. That is a neat service.
