“Making Mealtime Memories”

Kids are tricky little things, especially when it comes to food. From my experience, my child is 10x more likely to eat food she has helped create than if we make it for her, especially if there is something weird in it, you know… like vegetables.

Want to know what her favorite dish is? I will give you 3 guesses and if you have a child under 6 years old, I bet you already know exactly what I’m going to say:

Mac and Freakin’ Cheese. She would eat it all day long if we’d let her. We have to actually get creative with it, because for me, the thought of eating the same thing all the time seems quite boring. With that, we come up with variations. It’s amazing what you can do with a box of Mac N Cheese.

For example:
My daughters absolute favorite way to eat the cheesy good stuff is by throwing some peas and ham in it. Seriously! We also do broccoli and turkey. Sometimes I can get a way with spinach but I won’t hold my breath on that one.

My favorite memories when it comes to mealtime involve those moments when she scarfs down her food and says “yum!” I try to have more of those moments, even if they are very tricky to accomplish.

I “hide” veggies in a lot of my dishes. I hide spinach and zuccini in my homemade lasagna, and green beans in my homemad mac and cheese. My step-daughter says she will never eat her veggies…little does she know!

I swear mac and cheese is its own food group! Lucky for me though my daughter also loves her veggies!
I don’t know if it will work on children but I know if you want your husband to eat his veggies, just mix them with bacon and onions (true story) ;)
