Mom Extravaganza: Day 2 (ended)

Welcome to MOM EXTRAVAGANZA everyone! We are hosting a giveaway every day until Mother’s Day! That’s right! Everyday you can win an awesome gift geared towards moms.

Before we get started, here are the details: Every morning, we will start a new giveaway and will announce the winner the next morning. Simple as that! You are welcome to enter every day and every giveaway. Official rules and how to enter will be posted below. Let’s begin!

Psst… hey. Yeah, come ‘ere. We need to have some SECRET GIRL TALK. This is not a post to read when your significant other is leaning over your shoulder asking, “What are those clever MDM ladies saying today?” This is… an Aunt Flo blog. You’ve been warned!

Ok, so we’re all adults here. We all get a period and everyone’s period sucks. Its gross, it’s uncomfortable and it’s still a hassle, even out of your awkward teen years where you stared at the tampon package insert in horror wondering how the heck you were supposed to get THAT up THERE.

Now I want you to bear with me for a second while I talk to you about something that might be weird — reusable menstrual cups. WAAAAAAIT! Don’t leave yet! Hear me out! Now I was just as skeptical when my younger sister tried to sell me on these a few years back. I was scared. Heck, I was more than scared. I was downright weirded out. But then I got my DivaCup and I stared at it for a while and put it away until The Time came.

Wait, I'm supposed to put that WHERE?

About a month later, the time was upon me! I got out my cup; I took a deep breath and got it in there. Whew! (It did take some wiggling and adjusting, but apparently they suggest you test it out beforehand. I missed that tidbit of knowledge.) Shockingly, it felt fine. Not just “oh, I can deal with this” but ACTUALLY fine. Like nothing was going on at all. Taking it out was great too. Just pull it out and dump it in the toilet. No wrapping it up and throwing it in a special bin, no clogging up toilets trying to flush them. Just ‘splish splash’ – in it went! But here’s the best part… it holds a LOT more than even the fattest tampon. Now, I don’t want to gross you out, but if you’re a weirdo like me, the coolest part of these things is the fact that you can actually see what’s in there. (Plus, you can be like my sister who chased her husband around with it so he would look – no really, don’t do that.) You can wear them for up to 12 hours — or until your cup fills up on super heavy day — so you might only need to dump it out twice a day!

For me, cost is another huge factor in my decision to use a menstrual cup. These cups run about $20-25 and you can reuse them time and time again (they even sell DivaWash, a special solution to help clean your cup!). How many boxes of tampons will you go through this year? I should also remind you that tampons and pads are less than eco-friendly and take up a LOT of space in our landfills. When you use a menstrual cup, you carry ONE cup (usually in a cute little drawstring bag) that can be rinsed out and used again throughout the day. The cup comes in two sizes, Model 1 and Model 2. Model 1 is for women under 30 years old who have never delivered vaginally or by caesarean section. Model 2 is or women over 30 years old and/or for women who have delivered vaginally or by caesarean section.

I’m a HUGE fan of the DivaCup brand of menstrual cups and they want you to love them too! In fact, DivaCup would like to give away a FREE menstrual cup to one of our lucky readers!

  1. Heather

Ladies it’s true…I received one of these goodies as a Christmas present (yeah I know kinda weird) but I SWEAR by it! I’m super active and my period has always slowed me down until I started using the Diva cup. Now I can surf, run, hike, and fill my day with activity worry free of leaks and time frame.

A hint for all you newbies out there: I do my dumping and inserting in the shower. Since you only have to do this every 12 hours it doesn’t interrupt your daily routine and you don’t have to worry about any messes. It cuts down on the “gross” factor that can come with a menstrual cup.

If you are even slightly curious you NEED to enter this contest and try it out for yourself. Seriously, this thing is my #1 weird Christmas gift and favorite thing I can’t live without now!
