New Dyson Hard

Hard floors just got easier.
Dyson’s latest cordless technology vacuums dirt and wipes grime – in one action.

Hard floor cleaning is problematic. First you vacuum, then you mop – moving dirty water around, leaving floors soiled. Steam cleaning has its own problems, bound to a cord, waiting for steam. And battery powered 2-in-1 cleaners barely improve matters, relying on poor suction, leaving dust behind. All in all, time consuming and inefficient.

Engineered for hard floor cleaning, the Dyson Hard vacuum cleaner combines powerful suction with a wet wipe to remove dust and grime in one action. A double-edge cleaner head sucks up dirt and debris – before and after the wet wipe – with each stroke, leaving the wipe to remove stains and grime.

James Dyson “Cleaning hard floors is frustrating and ineffective. You vacuum, then mop – rigmarole. Propelled by our power dense digital motor, our engineers have designed a machine that vacuums and mops simultaneously. One machine, two jobs – one action.”

The Dyson digital motor V2 allows for perfectly poised floor to ceiling cleaning. Lightweight, with a center of gravity firmly in the hand, the Dyson Hard vacuum cleaner’s double edged cleaner head can be removed, adding a crevice and combination tool for up top, down below, hard-to-reach and in-between spaces. Remove the wand for cleaning cars and worktops.

Dyson digital motor: Powered by the Dyson digital motor V2, which is one third of the size of conventional motors, yet spins at 104,000rpm. This power dense motor allows the Dyson Hard vacuum cleaner to be compact and light with high performance.

Root Cyclone technology: Dyson’s patented Root Cyclone technology has been concentrated, spinning dust and dirt out of the air using centrifugal force.

Fade-free battery: A lithium-ion battery delivers 15 minutes of fade free performance. For stubborn dirt, there is a boost setting for 6 minutes of high intensity cleaning.

Materials: Dyson engineers used materials that would stand up to tough abuse in real home environments. The machine’s body is made from ABS Polycarbonate – the same material found in riot shields. Dyson engineers designed a reinforced wand, made from aluminum, to allow for extra push force in picking up grime.

Wipes: Dyson engineers worked with scientists to develop wipes for the machine. Two different wipes are available with the Dyson Hard vacuum cleaner – Hard floor and Wood nourishing. Each wipe is designed for different hard floor surfaces, and different tasks. The machine is also compatible with industry standard sized wipes found in most stores.

What it’s for:

Quick clean ups: It’s always on charge, for children, pet or cooking spills

Not just hard floors: Powerful cordless vacuum technology means it’s multipurpose: ceilings, cobwebs, countertops, cars, couches…

What it’s not for:

Wet spills/pasty materials: Machines that vacuum up liquid are difficult to maintain and unpleasant to clean. Better to dry up the spill with a towel, mop or paper towels and then use Dyson Hard for the sticky grime left behind, vacuuming as you go.

How to use it:

– We’ve used pre-crushed Fruity Pebbles, but feel free to use other small, dry household items – granola, cracker crumbs, tea leaves, crushed chips.

– When applying the wipe- make sure its tight.

– The “Max” button on the trigger is for quick, intensive blasts, for kitchen disasters!

– The wand is reinforced for quick scrubbing action for tough grime itself.

The Dyson Hard vacuum cleaner was slammed into obstacles from a number of different angles 39,154 times. During testing, 5,896 slap, drop and knock-over tests were conducted with the machine making impact with a variety of hard flooring, ensuring durability. Engineers also subjected the Dyson Hard vacuum cleaner to the tumble test – with the machine spending over an hour in a rig simulating the effects of a giant cement mixer.

Availability: The Dyson Hard vacuum cleaner is available on Dyson.com beginning August 12, 2013 and at most major retailers September 2, 2013.

Cost: $329.99, which includes a sample of Dyson wipes. Wipes sold separately are $6.99 for a pack of 12.

Warranty: The machine comes with a two year parts and labour warranty.

Hygienic bin emptying: The Dyson Hard vacuum cleaner has a trigger-bin emptying system. Dust and dirt can be emptied with the press of a button.

Bin capacity: The bin holds 0.35 litres of dust and dirt.

Weight: The machine weighs 2.15kg (4.7lbs).

Energy Star Rating: The machine’s battery charger has qualified for the Energy Star rating, due to its energy efficiency.
