Most parents can relate to the “grocery store melt down.” In fact some of us are so well versed in spotting a meltdown before it happens that we know what times to avoid the grocery store all together. Unfortunately I know it all too well. The usual sign starts with my little one not even wanting to get out of the car in the parking lot. They progress to some whining here and there and before I know if there’s a full-blown tantrum with kicking and screaming in the middle of an aisle.

Fortunately I am able to laugh about it now but one of the worst meltdowns I’ve ever had to experience happened when I even had the help of my patient and handsome husband. We were making our way through a normal shopping trip when my little one started grabbing at toys when we we’re checking out. We had almost made it through the entire shopping trip and felt so close, but it was all about to come to an end. When my little one started kicking and screaming my husband decided he would take her outside to wait in the car while I finished our shopping trip.

As he walks with my screaming daughter out of the store, he had no idea he was being followed by a concerned on-looker. Now my husband is quite charming and sweet, but to a random on-looker he could appear to be rather scary and intimidating. Picture a man covered from head to toe in tattoos and a bushy beard charging through the exit with a kicking and screaming little girl.

As my husband reach the car, I can only imagine his frustration when the concerned on-looker asked him what he was doing. Quizzically he looked back at the man and didn’t even understand why he was being questioned by a complete stranger. Then it hit him, the man thought perhaps he was kidnapping the child. That’s when he left to himself and explained to the man if it wasn’t his child he wouldn’t be putting up with all this nonsense and would have given her back! He laughed, and thanked the man for his concern and buckled my little one into her car seat.

When I finally got to the car with our groceries, he gave me an earful about what a funny and frustrating experience he just had.

Fortunately, meltdowns like that are no longer an issue with things like Walmart Grocery Pickup.
