“Outdoor Family Fun – Ideas & Inspiration”

“Dad, let’s do a family drive!”

We hear that often and I’ve got to admit, it’s one of my favorite things to do with my family. We hop in the car, no real destination in mind, we just go with the flow and I love it. Often we try to make a game out of it by playing I Spy. If we have a few minutes to plan before the spontaneousness ensues, we make a list of some things we hope to see on the drive. Wild Boars, Cows, Bulls, Eagles, Horses.

Often, my husband (with a great sense of humor) really gets into it and throws in his I Spy ideas. “Road Kill” was definitely on the list last week.

I will always cherish and remember these fun family drives and I hope to continue them for as long as I am alive.

Aside from the family drives, I’ve come up with a few ideas that will allow you to get outdoors and spend a little time with your family.

1. Walks

Walk up and down your street if you can’t go far. Enjoy nature, spot different animals and listen to sounds. If you have older kids, maybe have a scavenger hunt. Make it a game and they will look forward to family walks often.

2. Bike Rides

Let’s face it, almost everyone loves riding a bike. If you don’t, how hard did you fall and will you ever get back on again? No really though. Bike Rides are a fun way to spend a little time outdoors. It can be fun when your child is old enough to ride along side you. If they aren’t, a bike trailer or even a bike carrier is a great way to spend quality time with your family.

3. Parks

Parks don’t have to be boring for us adults. Don’t go to the same park if you can help it! Switch it up from time to time. By going on a hunt for a new park each week, you will turn the same old routine into something exciting that your kids will look forward to.

4. Water Games

A pack of water balloons, a sprinkler and a mini-pool will keep you cool all summer long. Schedule in a family water game date and splash through the summer while staying cool.

If we’ve learned anything from more than a century of building bikes, it’s that some things never get old. From that first taste of freedom, when the training wheels come off, to the wonder of a parent letting go, and all of the ups and downs in between, magical moments in life happen on a Schwinn.
Life’s a ride. Enjoy it on a Schwinn.
