Have you ever been to a baby shower and played those baby food guessing games? They are disgusting. Even if you choose not to participate, you can hear the commentary from everyone who is playing and 99.9% of the time they can’t figure out what’s in it. My rule of thumb? If I won’t eat it, why feed it to my kids? As a matter of fact… Have you ever looked at the ingredients in one of those jarred baby foods? I’m sorry, but I can only recognize about three ingredients before I start going.. “huh?” I like to know what exactly my kids are getting and make sure it’s a meal that I would be willing to eat. Which is why I chose to make my own baby food.

My work year snuck passed me this time around. Before I knew it, I had a stock pile of vacation to use in about a 2 month time slot, no plans to go anywhere, no money set aside yet for travel purposes, and it’s our busy season at work. You know what that all adds up to? Several four day weekends, not much time to plan, and no money to go anywhere. Yikes! But, I thought, this might not be so bad. I figured I’d finally be able to visit some local spots that I keep meaning to visit, and not hurt my budget. The ideas started rolling in, and the more I looked around town, the more I found to do. All 6 of my four day weekends are now packed with family fun on the cheap!

Do you have a favorite place that you always dream about? I do. I would love to go to Hawaii. Thankfully, one of our MDMs Editors lives in Hawaii and I get little doses of the islands by just talking to her. That doesn’t mean I don’t dream about visiting, taking in the scenery, the lifestyle.. Still trying to convince her to share her daily hawaiian life with us, wouldn’t that be fabulous?

Now that you have your gear and your supplies, you are all set to camp. But you can’t camp without a camp fire! I can’t talk about camping without giving you the low down on fire safety rules and regulations. No one wants to be the guy that burnt the forest down, destroying it for future generations. With a few safety tips, you can enjoy your s’mores and no one will get hurt!
