For as long as I can remember I have always had a passion for animals. They have a caring nature and unconditional love towards humans, most times, that is almost unmatchable. From a very young age I was concerned with the welfare of animals and preventing cruelty against them.
Peta, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, has been an organization that has aways taken a good approach, middle ground between being overly preachy and doing just enough to bring the attention of animal related issues to everyday life.
One of their most successful campaigns involved many top celebrities and music artists speaking out against fur just for fashion, and running semi controversial ads with the artists preferring their own nude skin to fur.
As an adult, and a little out of touch with the animal right scene, I still try to stay up to date on what companies are cruelty free, don’t test on animals and who cooperate with the laws regarding the ethical treatment of animals. I think one of the best ways to interact with others that might consider changing their lifestyle to a more compassionate one is to live by example.
It is better to be a kind and open minded vegetarian than a judging and preaching strict animal rights type. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar, and that is how I have always integrated my passion for the cause of animal rights with my everyday living.
