My toddler is a wild one, a free spirit, marches to the beat of her own drum. She loves to run around and fly off the couch. She loves to spin in circles and roll around with the cat. When I had decided to redesign our living room, I knew carpet and rugs were going to play a big part in that design and I definitely had her in mind. My husband was hesitant but I reassured him that it’s for the best, especially with the allergies that we deal with on a daily basis. Studies show that properly cleaned carpet improves indoor air quality by reducing airborne allergens. Believe it or not, carpet and rugs can act as a filter, trapping allergens and keeping them out of the air we breathe. Allergens that rest on top of hard surface flooring can easily be disturbed by every day activity such as walking, moving a chair or bouncing a ball. This is very very important for young children, who have breathing zones much closer to the floor.

Regular cleaning and maintenance – such as vacuuming and professional cleaning – help remove dust, allergens and other particulates from the carpet.

When browsing The Carpet and Rug Institute website, you can look for carpet certified by The Carpet and Rug Institute’s Green Label Plus program, which indicates a low-VOC (volatile organic compound) product for homes, schools and businesses.

I knew I wanted either carpet or a rug in our large family area. Carpet supports healthier spaces for living, working and learning for everyone – including people with asthma and allergies.

I couldn’t imagine our space without carpet and rugs to not only help keep the area fresh and trap allergens but also to help cushion her fall. I am excited for Christmas time and sitting around our living room, looking at the beautiful Christmas tree, enjoying our time with family. I love our living space and couldn’t imagine it looking any other way.
