“Tips on Throwing a Fabulous Independence Day Bash”

From the food to the cocktails, here are my tips for throwing an awesome Independence Day bash!

1. Patriotic Coolers w/ Red, White & Blue Ice Cubes.

The trick to the ice cubes is freezing them in parts. Recipe is listed at the bottom of the post.

2. Watermelon, Feta and Arugula Salad

This salad is light, crisp and delicious. Perfect for Independence day. Serve this up with some refreshing drinks for a nice summer evening. Recipe is listed at the bottom of the post.

3. Patriotic Pops

These might be a little more complicated than the other recipes, simply because molds are most likely needed. However, you can also use dixie cups or regular popsicle molds. I won’t tell.

You can make a variety of pops. You can use Cranberry Juice Cocktail, White Cranberry Juice or Blueberry Juice Cocktail… or for a real Fourth of July treat, try all 3 for a red, white and blue mix of fun! :) Recipe is listed at the bottom of the post.

4. Red, White, Blue Decorations (These are all from Party City)

Here are all the recipes:

Patriotic Coolers
with Red, White and Blue Ice Cubes

What You’ll Need:

Ingredients for Ice Cubes

1 ice cube tray
1 cup fresh blueberries, rinsed
1/3 cup Ocean Spray® Blueberry Juice Cocktail
1/2 cup Ocean Spray® White Cranberry Juice Drink
1/2 cup Ocean Spray® Cranberry Juice Cocktail

Ingredients for Coolers

2 cups Ocean Spray® White Cranberry Juice Drink
2 12 ounce cans lemon-lime flavored soda, chilled (sparkling water would work good too)
A splash of Bacardi (if you want to spice it up for the adults)

Note: For a fun twist, try the Bacardi Classic Cocktails Light which are great for parties and entertaining because it is ready-to-serve. You can plop the fun ice cubes into the ready-to-serve drinks and you’re set.

Place 4 blueberries in each of 16 ice cube cups. Add about 1 teaspoon blueberry flavored juice. Freeze at least 1 hour or until solid. Add 1/2 tablespoon white cranberry drink to each cup. Freeze 1 hour or until solid. Top with 1/2 tablespoon cranberry beverage. Freeze at least 1 hour or until solid.

In each of 4 tall glasses, pour 1/2 cup white cranberry juice drink and 3/4 cup soda. Add ice cubes to each glass.

Here are some other ideas for this menu:
– Instead of blueberries, use cranberries or cran-raisens.
– Instead of soda, you can use sparkling water, infused with lemon or lime (or both!).
– make a pitcher of 2 parts sparkling water, 1 part cranberry juice and then add the patriotic ice cubes. Perfect, refreshing drink for guests.
