Upgrading to Accommodate a Large Family

If you have a large family that consists of six or more people you know all too well the labor of love that goes into each day. Your day starts with getting children ready for school and ends with loading up the dishwasher before heading to bed. Having a big family comes with its challenges. Regular size items such as pots and pans, dishwashers, washing machines and even vehicles just don’t offer the amount of room you need to make life easier. Luckily, there are alternatives that can provide you with the size and space you need to complete tasks and enjoy time out together as a family.

Upgrading appliances

It wasn’t too long ago that washers and dryers were pretty much the same sizes. They had different features, but basically, the sizes were all comparable. Today, manufacturers are catching on to the fact that families can range from two to three people up to six, eight, ten, and beyond. Many of the newer high-efficiency models can hold double loads and sit up much higher making the tasks of doing the laundry faster and easier. There are also models that can hold up to 40 towels at once. This is a relief to the larger family that spends an entire day doing the laundry. Dishwashers too have come a long way. Newer, state of the art models can hold multiple larger pots, something that until recently was left for hand washing only.

Upgrading to industrial-strength alternatives for cooking dinner

When you have a large family dinner time requires exceptional timing of the meat, vegetables and additional sides. When you don’t have access to the proper size to accommodate the entire family’s needs, you have to repeat a process a second time and that can throw your timing on dinner off. The good news is that there are places such as Mission Restaurant Supply where you can go and purchase a larger size rice cooker, pots, casserole dishes or a pizza tray so that you can cook your dinner all at once, instead of having to do it in sections.

Creating storage for your family

A large family constantly deals with the need for space. Fortunately, there are so many ways to utilize every ounce of storage space to its full potential. In the pantry and cabinets in the kitchen, you can add pull outs to let you use the back area without the need for removing items in the front. Bunk beds in children’s bedrooms lets you create two sleeping areas from the same space. In the living room, many large families are using beautiful fabric bins as a way to cleverly hide away messy wires from gaming equipment, keep videos and even magazines and books. Many coffee tables and ottomans also have built-in storage space allowing you to hide your essential clutter from view. If you want to free up more space in your home, large storage bins with airtight lids allow you to move off season items to your basement, attic or garage. In the bathroom, you can keep separate decorative fabric bins in the closet with items for your children and you and your spouse. This way when it’s someone’s turn to wash up or to get ready for a night out, all of their essentials are in one location.

Food and supplies shopping

When you are raising a large family you are constantly replacing essential items. The good news is that there are many warehouses that sell food in bulk. In addition to buying your food in bulk, there are also many cleaning supplies that you can create at home for just a few pennies. This way you’ll not only save money, but you’ll also create things like bleach alternative cleaners and laundry detergent that’s non-toxic, making it safe for you, your family and the environment.

You love your large family and wouldn’t trade it for the world. However, by making a few small changes and upgrading your appliances and home goods you can spend more time on the enjoyment part than the cleaning tasks at hand.
