So if you have been keeping up with Modern Day Moms on Facebook and on Twitter, you would know that we had recently attended the New Parents Expo in New York City! I had been to New York before but this time I was with two of my bestest friends, fellow Modern Day Moms Emily and Jessica. Being in New York City with my friends, I knew we just HAD to have some good wine from a vineyard in New York. I mean, it wouldn’t be right to bring a bottle or two from a vineyard in California. I wanted to experience ALL of New York including their wine.

In doing some research about wineries in New York, I came across Fox Run Vineyard. I was so excited to find them and quickly pulled up Google maps to see how close the vineyard was to New York City. To my disappointment it was a bit too far, but luckily they were able to ship some bottles for me to bring in my suitcase to take with me on the trip. Thanks Fox Run Vineyard! If you are ever on the west side on Seneca Lake in Penn Yan, New York definitely check them out and then come back here and tell me all about your experience. I bet it will be amazing. The winery is situated high on Torrey Ridge overlooking one of the deepest parts of Seneca Lake – with fifty-five acres of vineyards producing a remarkable range of fine wines.

Fox Run Vineyards so very kindly sent us four bottles to drink while in New York. They sent us two bottles of Riesling, one bottle of Chardonnay and one bottle of Cabernet Franc.

Dry Riesling 2010

Tasting Notes:

A crisp and elegant wine, is poised between power and restraint. Lifted notes of lemon, ginger, and red raspberry on the nose give way to tangerine, line, apricot, and papaya in the mouth. The finish resolves with a trace of entrancing mineralty.

Vineyard Notes:

Our estate vineyards thrive on glacial soils comprised of broken shale and sandy loam, delivering grapes with a vibrant expression of terroir. The eastern facing slopes capture the early morning sun and warm Seneca Lake breezes, making for ideal ripening conditions.

Riesling (Semi- Dry) 2009

Tasting Notes:

This wine displays ripe and complex aromas suggestive of apricot, tangerine and lime. Rich and soft with a finely balanced finish.

Vineyard Notes:
Moderate heat with ample rain throughout the growing season. Cooler than average temperatures led to expressive and vibrant wines.

Cabernet Franc 2008

Tasting Notes:

Classic cool-climate Cab franc nose, suggesting raspberries, roses and dried herbs. Medium bodied and soft, with emphasis on fresh fruit unencumbered by oak.

I can’t speak for the other girls, but out of the bottles we drank I thoroughly enjoyed the Chardonnay the best. It was different that most of the Chardonnays I drink as it isn’t a California Chardonnay, but it was a great tasting Chardonnay and something I would purchase to drink again. All bottles were under $20.00 making this an excellent find!

Fox Run Vineyards has a great selection of wines to choose from including Ports. Please visit their website to learn more about them.

I am glad you liked the wines. Is there anything better to do then drink the wines and eat the foods from the region where you are visiting
