The Wizard of Oz, a Scanimation Book

Hello, and welcome back to Jess T.’s Book Club! Its been a while since I’ve done an installment of the Book Club (hey, I’m no Oprah), but I simply had to share this book with you!

My daughters LOVE the Wizard of Oz.

In fact, I’d say most people I know have a soft spot in their hearts for this classic film and books! I can’t even begin to count how many times my family has watched the movie… even the super creepy sequel Return to Oz.

*Ugh* So creepy!

So since we love all things Oz, we were pleased as a scarecrow with a brain to find this super cool new book from author Rufus Butler Seder, who made a few other neat Scanimation books too!

The Wizard of Oz: A Scanimation Book brings famous images to life with neato technology that makes still images appear to move before your very eyes. Complete with memorable quotes and a read-along narration, this book is super duper snazzy. You can totally “judge the book by its cover,” which is decked out in the same red glittery style as the ruby slippers!

You’ve just gotta pick this up for the Oz-lover in your life so buy a copy on Amazonor wherever books are sold!

The winners of the Wizard of Oz Scanimation books are…

This is so neat! I’d actually really love to get one of these for one of my nephews.

For about two years he has been all about The Wizard of Oz. He knows the songs by heart, runs around the house singing and dancing to it, dressed as the Tin Man for Halloween (even though his first request was Dorothy, hehe), and has his own puppet theater with The Wizard of Oz puppets. His Wizard of Oz figurines go with him everywhere. He also loves The Oz and his rendition of “Ease on Down the Road” is adorable! His love for The Wizard of Oz is only barely topped by the Broadway musical Cats, and he is only five-years-old!

2. Nicole who says…

My 2 1/2 year old is OBSESSED with the Wizard of Oz. She’s going to be Dorothy for Halloween. I made her a Wicked Witch outfit out of a black t-shirt of my husband’s and construction paper for a hat, and even painted her face green with face paint a few times. She has discovered the Dorothy and witch costumes at her preschool. She’ll randomly quote bits of the movie or start singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow (or, really, any of the other songs). We’re on pair #2 of Ruby slippers. She’s made a Toto basket out of a plush Easter basket and a tiny little doggy (who, of course, she’s named Toto).

My son (5) is also a big Wizard of Oz fan, though we have to skip all the parts with the Witch or the talking trees when we watch the movie. He’s requested to be the Tin Man for Halloween, so we’re trying to create a costume for him. My newest baby (3 weeks) is going to be the Cowardly Lion. As you can tell, we’re very into the Wizard of Oz!

Keep your eyes out for an email from me! Thanks to everyone who entered!

My 3 year old loves the Wizard of Oz….i thought she might get scared of the flying monkeys, but it turns out that’s her favorite part!

Scott and Xander are huge WoO lovers, Scott since he was a little guy and Xander just recently viewed and loved it. Scott taught his gran’s parrot to sing Somewhere over the Rainbow, or at least he tried to it only sang ‘Somewherrrrrre over..’ over and over from what I’ve heard lol

I’ve always loved this movie and everything that goes with it! I have videos from when I was younger, singing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” (very badly!)

My brother is obsessed with the flying monkeys from the movie. He has tried to dress my nephew up as one for Halloween several years, but his wife won’t let him.

I’ve always been a huge fan of the Wizard of Oz. I totally forgot about the sequel, but we used to watch it a lot when I was younger. I may have to watch it again just for old time’s sake. Haha!

I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of watching the Wizard of Oz. It’s one of those movies that will always be loved by our family.

This is SO fabulous! I love these books, but I LOVE the Wizard of Oz! I have wanted to BE Dorothy Gale since I was a little girl. I used to look forward all year to the annual televised broadcast, and my mom and I would make treats and watch it together with utter giddiness.

I collected the Barbie-style dolls of all of the characters and have even collected the McDonald’s Happy Meal Madame Alexander W of O dolls. And I don’t even collect dolls or have a daughter! I even conned my husband into driving around to all of the McDonald’s in our area to track down the Dorothy doll I was missing. He ended up getting it on Ebay for me. He got quite a smooch for that surprise.

I lived a childhood fantasy was when I was working at a children’s museum in college and played Dorothy at a fundraising event. I couldn’t wipe the grin off my face as I led a gaggle of little girls with their glittery red shoes down the yellow brick road.

I have LOVED WoO since I read Wicked in 10th grade. Lorelai would go absolutely nuts over this book. It would be a nice change from Green Eggs and Ham, too! Haha.
