I am completely and utterly inspired by rooms painted black. Call me crazy and most do – but I find it refreshing. Usually, when you think of black paint, you don’t really think of refreshing however, when used properly, it can be beautiful.
I am currently in the middle of redecorating a few rooms in the house. One of the great things of home ownership is the fact that you can change things when you’re bored and every few years I get the urge to do something fun… and this was something that I’ve wanted to do for a long time.
I have a small chalkboard wall in the kitchen… it’s not very big and it’s a great way to write little notes and keep track of certain events. It was also a compromise between my husband and I. He did not want me to paint the entire kitchen in black chalkboard paint (but I would have if he had said yes)…
When it came time to wanting to spruce up the guest/office room, I decided to go for it, to take the leap and buy flat black/slate paint from Lowe’s.
Below are a few inspirational rooms that got me where I am today with obsessing over the black/chalkboard paint. For those who still think it’s crazy, maybe these photos might change your mind:

Chalkboard paint can add a little fun to a craft room:
It would also make a great accent wall for an office. Look at all that space!
Mixed with bright white accents, I think black paint can really be beautiful.
This was the main inspiration behind my redesign kick. I am loving this office. So fresh, so bright… even with black paint! Who knew?
If you aren’t ready to paint your entire room black, you can always try an accent wall.

So clean, so clever, so organized:
and last but not least, magazine worthy. West Elm.
Please, follow me in this journey of completely redecorating our guest/office room and going from white paint to black paint… WHOA.
Here we go!
Progress photos coming soon!

12 years agoI agree with how fabulous the black accent wall looks! I have been obsessing over the black and white bedroom interiors because they look so elegant. However, I’m not sure I would go for chalk paint because I can only imagine all the chalk dust getting everywhere. But it would make a great addition to a children’s playroom (just one wall)! Thanks for sharing!
