DIY Driftwood Mirror

This is another super easy DIY that anyone can do. I’ve seen these driftwood mirrors at Pottery Barn and other stores online. I knew it would be easy and inexpensive to do.

I purchased all the driftwood at Hobby Lobby, except for one pack, which was purchased at Joann Fabric & Crafts, but it doesn’t really look like driftwood and it was twice the price. Hobby Lobby also has an assortment of chunky pieces and longer, slender pieces. They were only $2.99 each and I used the 40% off coupon to get them for around $2 each. It only took me 3 packs, so that’s a total of $6 for the driftwood. The mirror was purchased at Joann Fabric & Crafts because they have mirrors that aren’t beveled, which is what I prefer. I bought the 16″ mirror for around $4 using one of their coupons as well. I also bought the QuickGrip contact adhesive at Joann using a coupon as well. This stuff is amazing…even Martha Stewart uses it. The hangers are from Walmart and were $3.

If you desire, you can purchase a thin MDF board or something to secure your mirror and hangers to just to feel secure. I’ve worked with QuickGrip before and feel confident that the two hangers will hold up. The mirror doesn’t turn out too heavy.

You can lay your pieces out to see how it will all look ahead of time or you can do it as you go. I just glued them on as I went and it turned out very well. As the tube says, don’t put on too much glue to your surface. Just make sure you apply it where the wood will be touching the surface as they won’t lay perfectly flat.

When you start applying them, make the outside pieces overlap the edges to hide the edge of the mirror. When you begin to stack them, you can fill in the spaces you couldn’t get.

Once you have all the pieces on, let it all dry for at least 24 hours. I usually wait 48 hours just to be sure.

Flip your mirror over and rest it on a raised surface. I had a wide vase and used that. Apply a small amount of glue to the hangers and attach them evenly to the back side, making sure they are level and in the 2 and 10 positions (like where you are supposed to hold onto the steering wheel). Follow the directions on the tube to get the best results.

Allow them to dry thoroughly before hanging.

You could also just prop it up, too. For under $20, I’d say this is a beautiful and awesome project!
