Anniversary Gifts: The Good, The Bad, The Cotton

“Anniversary Gifts: The Good, The Bad, The Cotton”

Do you remember what you got for your last anniversary? Did you know there was a list you were supposed to actually follow? Yeah… well, I wasn’t really aware of this so-called “list” and definitely missed the mark on the last gift.

For our first year, I bought my husband a skateboard and a t-shirt, when I should have got him something that is “paper related”. Um, oops. If you want to get really technical, you can say that the skateboard is wood which comes from a tree… and paper is also made from the tree. Does that work?

If I would have held out and bought the t-shirt the 2nd year, I would have totally been on par with the “cotton” gift suggestion. One year, he gave me a deep-fryer which was actually genius. Anything that can be use for the house, especially in the kitchen is a great gift.

Let me explain the list. It’s good to be in the know.

If you’re celebrating a wedding anniversary, old-timey etiquette recommends you give a gift that follows the traditional list. Today, a second “modern” list was created. It’s unclear when and where this one originated, but even with the addition of appliances and musical instruments, it seems equally stuffy at first glance. However, the list starts with small, practical gifts to help newlyweds stock their home and builds up to more luxurious gifts as time goes on—stick it out & go for the gold.

Anniversary gift buying can be really fun if you think outside the box. You don’t have to take the list “literally” and can get creative when it comes to surprising your spouse.
