Creative Cups (October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month)

“Creative Cups (October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month)”

In the United States right now, a woman has a 1 in 8 chance of developing invasive breast cancer during her life. In New York State about 14,028 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year alone. The Adelphi New York state wide breast cancer Hotline and support program is there to make sure that no person affected by breast cancer has to face it alone.

Adelphi University has a lengthy record of helping out the community. In 1980, the first post-mastectomy group began at Adelphi’s School of Social Work. The women that were in this support group, all who felt alone when they were diagnosed, found comfort in sharing their experiences with others who where going through the same things. This made them decide they wanted to reach out to women that also were facing breast cancer.

There was a time when breast cancer was hardly discussed publicly at all. Thanks to Adelphi, who developed the “woman to woman hotline” statewide, there is a hotline available for support to those who need help.

In recognition of the upcoming breast cancer awareness month, we are helping to bring attention to the great work that Adelphi does. Their hotline supports those who need it and groups for those with breast cancer and their families. In addition to the great work they have done with their breast cancer hotline, they are hosting a fund raising gala in March 2015 called Creative Cups (http://www.adelphi.edu/creative-cups/auction-and-reception.php). The gala, is a bi-annual, charitable event with many unique and artistic bras for sale.

For many of our readers breast cancer is an issue that is near and dear to their hearts. If you would like to become a sponsor of the creative cups fundraiser here is how: http://www.adelphi.edu/creative-cups/become-a-sponsor.php.

Our hearts go out to those that are affected by breast cancer, but I am glad Adelphi University is available to help those that truly need it. Find them on facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/adelphibreastcancerhotline.

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Adelphi University. The opinions and text are all mine.
