This is another one of our “Get the look for less” projects. It is so simple and fun and can help style up your home without breaking your budget.
All you need is:
- a picture frame
- poster board
- tissue paper
That’s it! I purchased my frame at Walmart for only $14 plus tax, the poster board I found at Joann Fabrics & Crafts for only $.79 and the tissue paper you can find anywhere for around $1.
The idea for this piece came from a piece of art I saw in passing one day while shopping at Home Goods. I saw it, then I saw the price tag and I thought, “I can do that!” My coral may not closely resemble theirs, but I had a lingering headache while I made it, so I kind of rushed instead of paying better attention to detail. The amazing part is that I can always do over the “coral” because it used hardly any tissue paper.
If you can’t tell, the price tag on the framed art at Home Goods says $149.99. Yes…my eyes widened, too. I made mine for around $16. You could probably also use some kind of parchment type of paper to create a similar effect if the tissue paper is too delicate for you.
Just use the generic photo that comes in the frame to cut out the size you need from your poster board.
All done! I might go back when I don’t have a headache and try to mimic the designs in the original art piece just because I am an A-type personality. ;)
And if you desire, you can use some spray paint to make the frame gold or purchase one.
