DIY Restoration Hardware Inspired Rope Mirror

I absolutely love how this project turned out and how easy it was to do. Perhaps you’ve seen these mirrors in stores and online. They’ve become quite trendy and here at a Modern Day Moms we are always trying to show you the latest trends.

Restoration Hardware sells this 35.5″ rope mirror for $649. I am not doing a large scale mirror like that, but you can if you like. The materials I am using don’t go much bigger than 14″, at least from what I found.

For this project you will need:

  • A mirror
  • baking pan
  • rope
  • hangers
  • adhesive

I decided to make this mirror for my son’s bathroom, which is also the guest bath. We are eventually going to remodel his bathroom and I already know exactly how. This mirror will be perfect for it!

I’ve seen a lot of DIYs for this mirror, but none used the items I came up with and theirs still cost $50 or more. This project will run you about $27.

I am doing this on a smaller scale as it’s a bathroom mirror for a small bathroom. I chose a 12 inch mirror from Joann Fabrics & Crafts as well as a 12″ Wilton baking pan. Hobby Lobby has the mirrors as well, but there’s are beveled and it wasn’t so easy for me to get the mirror to go in their 12″ pan. The items at Joann worked together perfectly! Just an FYI.

I purchased Rustoleum’s textured spray paint in Aged Iron. I wanted my mirror to look aged like something sitting out on a pier, but you could also do an aged bronze look if you want. First, spray paint the inside and outside edges of the pan. It took the entire can for this one pan. I also sprayed the top side of the hangers.

Next, add a few lines of adhesive inside the pan to attach your mirror.

Then slide your hangers onto the rope back-to-back. Tie a knot in one end and make sure it is taut. Measure out how much rope you want to hang it from and add in a little more for your knot then cut it. Tie your knot for your other side.

Add some adhesive to the back side of your hangers and stick them to the outside of your pan about 1/3 of the way down. Make sure to have q-tips handy so you can wipe away excess adhesive. Let them dry for 24-48 hours to allow the adhesive to cure and be secure before hanging it. Luckily these items are very light weight.

You’re done! Make sure you bring coupons for everything to make this mirror for around $27. They have them available in stores and on their app.
