End of Summer Celebrations: Labor Day Style

“End of Summer Celebrations: Labor Day Style”

As summertime winds down, it’s time to plan one last bash before the chill of autumn starts to set in. Enter… Labor Day!

The Labor Day holiday began in the 1880s as a way to honor workers for all of their efforts. With that in mind, try to encourage your guests to really relax by filling your outdoor area with hammocks, comfortable lounge chairs or lawn blankets and lots of pillows. It’s time to get comfortable and have a relaxing outdoor bash.

What exactly are Labor Day decorations and themes? Well… like 4th of July, patriotic decorations dominate for Labor Day, but in addition to the stars and stripes, the slight chill in the air means you can also decorate in warm, earth tones and rich oranges, golds and yellows.

Tiki torches, twinkle lights and candles in hurricane lamps keep things bright if your party lasts into evening. And don’t forget the citronella candles to keep any flying critters away.

Here are some of my favorite things that I think would make for the perfect Labor Day bash.

Love these Bandana Napkins. Never would have thought. You can buy a cheap back of Bandanas from the dollar store or walmart.

Patriotic banners, napkins or mini flags from your local dollar store will add some flare to your bbq party. If you’d like to have centerpieces, create them by placing bright and colorful fruits (oranges, lemons/limes, apples, peaches, etc.) in clear bowls or baskets and garnish with flowers from your local supermarket.

What About The Food?

Say goodbye to summer with the season’s bounty of fresh fruits and vegetables. That means sun-kissed tomatoes, sweet corn and juicy berries, as well as other warm-weather favorites like lobster, steaks, ribs and anything else you can throw on the grill.

These adorable Hamburger Cupcakes from Bakerella would be a fabulous treat on Labor Day!

What a creative way to eat your fruit, right? These watermelon pops are sure to be a hit!

Kebabs are a great way to combine your favorite meats and veggies in a cool, colorful package. Served with a few simple sides like orzo salad and cucumber salad, they’re easy to prepare and easy to clean up.

As far as drinks go, ones that are already “pre-mixed” are the best, like the delicious Bacardi Classic Cocktails. Try a Mojito for a nice, clean, cool taste.
