Goldilocks & the Three Bears
Does your family remind you of Goldilocks and the Three Bears? Perhaps you have a little Goldilocks or want to be Goldilocks yourself. I’m sure your family can whip up some fine bears. There are always those in the family that want things bigger, smaller and just right. You know your family is fussy so this is the perfect twist to a Halloween family costume theme.
Using Paper Mache For the Bears Heads
You’ll need a punch balloon, brown paint (use as many shades as you’d like), newspaper, liquid starch, thin cardboard (any food boxes around the house) and a sponge brush. Start by blowing up your punch balloon as big as three times your head. Cut strips of newspaper for paper mache that will cover your punch balloon. Soak these strips in liquid starch, but make sure the strips are not dripping, that’s too wet. Dry your balloons for an entire day after you fully covered them with the paper strips. It is vital to make sure your balloon is completely dry before you continue. You want your paper mache to be completely hardened. If the balloon is not entirely dry, wait another day. This is key.
Next, from your cardboard, cut a circle and a long strip. Tape your strip into a cylinder and top it off with the circle. Next, cut the tabs all along the open end of the cylinder. Now, flare the tabs out and tape each one to the face of your mask. Next, cut out the ears and tape them down. Gently cover your mask with a layer of paint, once the paint is entirely dry (also important), steadily remove the balloon from the inside of your mask. Next, cut a neck hole. Make sure you cut the neck hole large enough to fit your head inside! Put on the mask to calibrate a place for your eye-holes.
For Goldilocks’ Hair
You’ll need yellow jersey fabric, yellow yarn, your sewing machine or a needle and a thread. Next, you’ll cut the yellow jersey fabric into the shape of a hat; you can achieve this easily by tracing a hat from your closet. Now, you can use your sewing machine to stitch the outer edge of the hat. Finally, pull the yarn from your skein. Make sure you pull as long as your arm length. Once you’ve established a good amount, locate the center and lay it flat. Create a middle part, by stitching the yarn to the hat from the front to the back. Continue stitching until it is fully covered.
This next costume is much easier to assemble than casting a spell…
