If you are like me than you have a ton of Easter candy still at your house and a ton of peeps. I heard about this idea of taking peeps and turning them into colorful rice krispy treats. And they work like a charm and make a fun treat! As well as making a fun kid friendly cooking project.
Ingredients:
butter
Rice Krispies (or generic)
4 packages of Peeps, variety of colors
wax paper
Directions:
Line a loaf baking pan with wax paper
Open each packet of peeps and place in 4 bowls or very large measuring cups, keep in mind they expand.
Place a tablespoon of butter on top of peeps and microwave for 45 seconds to 1 minute, based on your microwave. It is easiest if you do each color of peeps one at a time.
Remove from microwave and stir butter and hot peeps together until melted. Then add 1 1/2 cups rice cereal to the mixture and stir until well coated.
Add the mixture to the lined backing pan and then repeat with the other 3 bowls.
Once you have finished layering the cereal mixture in let cool for an hour before taking out and cutting.
Tips: If you spray the spatula or spoon that you are using to spread the layers of sticky marshmallow cereal it will keep it from sticking.
