One of my daughter’s favorite Princesses is Snow White. She loves her because she is kind, sweet and has a pretty voice. Snow White is always cheerful and kind, even though her cruel stepmother wishes the innocent maiden ill when the Magic Mirror reveals Snow White to be the fairest in the land. The wicked queen tries to do away with Snow White, but she narrowly escapes through the terrifying forest and finds comfort among the gentle wild creatures that live there. Even after she has found a new home with her new friends, the Seven Dwarfs, her wicked stepmother finds a way to send her into an enchanted sleep. Fortunately, a happy ending is just a kiss away.
While my daughter is drawn into the movie and character because of the colors and the story line, I like the details behind the movie.
According to wikipedia, Walt Disney had difficulty finding a suitable voice for Snow White. A casting director for Disney phoned a well-known voice coach named Guido Caselotti, to help him. Overhearing the conversation, Caselotti’s daughter Adriana got on the phone and sang and spoke in a young girl’s voice. Embarrassed, Guido ordered his daughter to get off the phone, but the casting director had already invited her to audition. After Walt heard her, he cast her immediately.
Snow White was beautiful and kind. She loved animals and always set out to help others.
A fun fact about her, she is one of the few fictional characters to actually have their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Speaking of a Modern Day Snow White, I love this photo from Dina Goldstein who gives us a peek at just that, a Snow White in this day and age.
