If you have a teething baby, and can’t seem to find anything that really works, then I suggest trying an amber teething necklace. This wound up being the most effective treatment for teething for my little one. I admit, I was a huge skeptic at first. How can a piece of jewelry help? When my baby started teething at about 4 months, I hadn’t heard of amber teething necklaces before. We tried everything to help her. Tylenol only worked to minimize things, but never gave full relief. I also didn’t like the idea of giving her Tylenol constantly. Teething toys helped, but only briefly. She hated anything that came out of the freezer, so that was a no-go. I can’t give her Motrin, because of a history of being allergic to it in my family. Teething tabs were pretty much useless on her, and then they got recalled anyways. I was at a loss.
So I started researching other ways to sooth a teething baby, and had resigned myself to the fact that I was just going to have to deal with the screaming! I came across a baltic amber teething necklace some how, and brushed it off. But a few weeks later, I just couldn’t take it anymore and I bought one. I was desperate for her to have some relief, and for me to get some sleep!
I wish I wouldn’t have waited so long to get one now! We went through one tooth without it, and it was miserable. And I mean miserable. After getting the teething necklace, and 4 teeth later we haven’t had an issue since. I usually don’t even know she has a tooth coming in!
So what is it? And why does it work?
It’s a simple necklace made out of Baltic amber beads. Amber is a natural pain reliever and anti-inflammatory. The idea behind amber teething jewelry is, the warmth from wearing it on your skin softens the amber and releases the oils that contain the pain relieving and anti-inflammatory benefits. Your skin absorbs the oils, and then it gets sent all around your body to help with your aches and pains. You are supposed to wear the jewelry closest to the area of concern. So for babies, they should wear it around their neck. But I have found, it’s just as effective if I put it around her ankle, and cover it with a sock so she doesn’t mess with it.
Even though the name implies that babies are supposed to chew on it, they aren’t! It’s not meant for that. They just wear it, plain and simple. I keep it on my kiddo 24 hours a day except for baths. I left it off once for a few days (because I forgot to put it back on) and boy was I ever sorry! A mistake I will never make again. We have only used Tylenol once since I bought the necklace. Four teeth later (and another on the way!), I’m no longer a skeptic. They may not work for every single baby, but if you are at your wits end with and nothing else has helped, consider trying an amber teething necklace! Be sure to search for reputable sources. Cheap, fake amber will do you no good. Safety is always a concern too, and reputable makers of these necklaces will make them with each bead individually knotted and will have a special “break free” clasp so your child won’t hurt themselves if they yank too hard on it. Of course, you can always keep it on the ankle like I do. I suggest checking Inspired By Finn for more information and for different styles of jewelry. They even make them for adults with chronic pain!

14 years agoGreat article! I was looking on her site and she is sold out :( I was under the impression that I wear it and they chew on it. I had just seen pics advertising them like that. Good to know the real benefit and who should be wearing it!
My son loves his Sophie teething giraffe or just a warm wet washcloth. Im gonna try the necklace, I was looking for some the other day but was out of luck.

13 years agoI love my Baltic Amber Teething necklace! My son is 12 1/2 months and I just started using one and I have yet to give him anything for pain ( we were using the Tablets every 4 hours on the dot) I also use a Baltic amber bracelet for wrist pain!
