We have a whole bunch of ideas for Christmas decorating here on the blog, and I’m back with another! This is a simple, yet elegant way to put a finishing touch on your holiday decorations. Hey, you can even use this idea to make a quick centerpiece for your dining room table! That always seems to be the one thing I forget when preparing my house for my Christmas dinner. The centerpiece. I’ve been doing this for a few years now, and I love it!
No real instructions needed here. Just poke cloves into oranges, and you’re all set. You can make them all the same and go with a theme, or make them different. Keep the kids busy with this project, too! The cloves will poke right into the skin, so there’s no other supplies needed.
I think the thing I love most about these, is the way they smell. Oh man….the scent of cloves and oranges together is just amazing! If you are like me, and can’t handle heavily scented candles, then this might be the thing you’re looking for. They will leave a light fragrance in the air, but it won’t be overwhelming. If you want to amplify the clove-citrus goodness, make a ring of oranges and put an un-scented candle in the middle. The warmth from the candle with heat the oils in the oranges and cloves, and you’ll have a lovely but light fragrance to fill the room.
If you’re using this idea for a centerpiece, you could add cinnamon sticks to the platter, around the oranges and maybe some sage leaves to add in some color. Simple, but beautiful! Little touches like this always put me in the holiday spirit!
