Since the spring season is here, we have rounded up the biggest trends from the spring/summer 2014 runways so you can learn how to incorporate them into your beauty routines.
Ethereal beauty, romantic hair, and swinging 60’s were buzzwords heard all over backstage Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week SS14. This season it’s all about the right mix of grunge and glamour for your beauty routine. Every woman wants to be pretty, but this season we’re redefining what pretty looks like.
Skin:
Real skin feel. On the spring/summer 2014 runways skin felt fresh as if there was barely any makeup there. Makeup artists suggest spraying a facial mist after applying foundation for makeup to settle into skin. Spending time giving yourself a bit of a facial massage before applying makeup allows blood to circulate through the face and will leave you with a natural glow.
Skin tone color blush. Very few runway shows had models sporting bright pink cheeks. If blush was used it matched the models natural skin tone or leaned more to the brown shades.
Eyes:
Skip the mascara. An unexpected way to add drama is to skip mascara all together from top and bottom lashes. This just compliments more the natural beauty trend.
Blue liner & shadow. Blue has been a trending color for beauty since this past winter season. The same cobalt blue that was creating a frosted finish to your beauty looks this winter is still being used as a nice alternative to pastels for this spring season. Deep royal blue was used a lot either all over the eye lid for a grunge look or just used as a winged liner for a fun retro look.
Earth toned shadows. Think hunter green, semi-matte chocolate brown, taupe, sand shadows. When applied directly on the eyelid, not passing the crease, these colors add life to the face, but help keep the look subtle. Pass the eye crease for a smoky night out look.
Gold eyes & brows. Dior dominated this trend with gold brows and gold metallic eye shadow seen on the models down the runway. Gold is going nowhere and it’s the easiest way to add glamour to any look.
All white. White eyeliner, white paint pots smeared on the eyelid, or a light white shadow dusted on lids- there’s no wrong way to do white. Another strong color for usually the winter season, we’re seeing incorporated more than ever into spring beauty.
Lips:
Neon orange lips. We’ve seen orange lips as a major trend since last summer. This year orange is electrified with more red undertones and a glossy finish. Pair with ivory eye shadow for a bright-eyed doll look.
Classic red lip. The red lip holds true for all seasons. This season instead of a dark Christmas red- reach for the tomato red lip color. Matte or glossy, either way- you win!
Natural lips. Keep it simple with lip balm and take a matte brown lipstick and apply with your fingertips for a natural stain finish.
Nails:
Deep navy. A nice break from the usual dark colors people reaches for when getting their manicures. Navy looks great on any skin tone and is a rich nail color you may just fall in love with!
Neutrals, especially crisp white polish. Beige, tan, brown, and white are all great nail colors to go for this spring. Mint green nails may also be considered a new neutral for this season.
Black polish. Especially with mixed finishes of matte and shiny on the same nail will give this manicure a much-needed lift.
Hair:
Sleek ponytails. This hairstyle was mainly seen worn gripped at the nape of the neck with hair shiny and combed perfectly back.
Deep side parts. Hair was either kept up or down on the spring/summer 2014 runways, but either way hair always sported a very deep side part. Front hairs were brought down the front of the face to sweep over the forehead and tucked behind the ear for a shaggy bang effect.
Big braids. Either pinned up across the crown of the head for a classic milkmaid look- add flower appliques in the hair for an ultra romantic look or loose tousled and extra long braids that give a globetrotter vibe are also great for this season.
