Call Your Mom
If you’re lucky enough to have a close relationship with your mom, now is the time to rely on her more than ever. After all, she’s been in your shoes! She raised you and your siblings, if you have any, and has been through everything that you’re experiencing! You turned out just fine,Your mom can empathize with you on a level that your friends or spouse might not be able to. She knows you better than anyone else and can help put your concerns at ease. Although she may give you wacky advice that was valid when she was carrying you, know that you don’t have to listen to everything she says, but rather use her as a person to vent to. Even if she’s pouring out wild advice, she can still act as a good support system for you.
Find a Reliable Babysitter (or two!)
Getting out of the house and spending time away from the baby is important for new parents. Even if it is just for an hour to go grab a coffee or a drink down the street, it is important to keep your relationship with your spouse fresh and give yourself time to be a couple like you were before the baby came! If you don’t want to leave your baby with a stranger, you can enlist family members or friends to come and watch the baby for an hour. Most likely, you have people who are DYING to watch the baby. Take our advice and take people up on their offers!
Before you leave your baby alone, be sure to examine your own comfort level and your babysitter’s experience with newborns as well as your baby’s reaction to strangers. Give them a list of instructions of what baby likes and doesn’t like and of course the best number to reach you at if something happens or if they have questions. You can even ask your babysitter to send you a photo or two so you still feel connected while you’re out. Be sure to leave your baby well fed or with a bottle in case baby gets hungry while you’re gone. Trust us, your sanity will thank you for an hour away from the baby and with your hubby!
