Surviving First Months with a Newborn Baby

Sleep When Baby Sleeps

We’re sure you’ve heard this piece of advice – sleep when the baby sleeps – but it couldn’t be truer! During the first few weeks of having a newborn, your baby will be up every few hours to eat, which doesn’t leave you much time to sleep. The laundry and dirty dishes in the sink? Those can wait. Sleep is so important! They say that a sleep-deprived person’s brain functions like someone who is drunk. Would you let someone who is drunk take care of your baby?

Absolutely not! So, mama, when the baby sleeps, put your head down and get some rest too. Taking care of yourself is the most important thing that you can do for the well being of yourself and your new baby, and relationship with your spouse too!

Stock Up On Pads or Adult Diapers

This is something that we suggest doing prior to the baby arriving because nothing is more awkward than sending your significant other to the drugstore to go and buy adult diapers :). After the baby is delivered you’re going to bleed for 3-6 weeks, even if you have a c-section. Most second time moms actually wear a pad inside of their adult diapers to reduce instances of leaking. Make sure you get a supply that will last you few weeks, as this bleeding is much heavier than what your previous period was like. We know it’s not the most glamorous or fun part of post-delivery care, but don’t say we didn’t warn you!
