Tech Talk: The Kogeto Dot

“Tech Talk: The Kogeto Dot”

Welcome to Jess T.’s Tech Tuesday, where all your geek are belong to us!

There are a lot of camera apps. You can do just about anything with your photos on-the-go! But what’s really lacking for the iPhone is something neat for video. That’s where the Dot comes in. Check out this quick overview… I’ll wait here.

But what the heck IS a Dot?

The Kogeto Dot is “the world’s smallest panoramic video thingy for the iPhone 4 and 4S.” It gives your normal, run-of-the-mill camera the capability to film 360° video, all at once – without patching frames together. With the help of the Looker app, you can shoot and share your panoramic adventures, right from the palm of your hand, either to Facebook, Twitter or to Dotspots.

Dotspots is a dedicated social site (think Instagram) where you can share your Dot videos with other Dot users – and the rest of the world – and maybe even make it to the coveted Featured Dotspots page! You’ve gotta check out some of the amazing videos people have shared. One of my favorites features a fancy train set – check it out here!

The sugary sweet stuff:

I loooove the fact that its light-weight, with no scratchy parts to damage my iPhone, plus its a super cool concept that makes shooting video really fun.  While you play the videos, you can drag left or right to pan the screen, allowing for a full view of whatever awesome thing you’ve decided to capture. Once you get the hang of it, its really easy to use and the only thing holding you back is trying to come up with new ideas for videos!

The nit-picky complaints:

At first its a little awkward to figure out, in all honesty. But its worth it and that’s why its important to read the watch the “how to” video in addition to reading the instructions! That’s really my only complaint… that is isn’t super intuitive, right out of the box. Also, I didn’t like having to take my phone out of its giant child-proof Otterbox case, but that wasn’t Kogeto’s fault.

Go get your Dot!

You can buy a Dot on Kogeto’s website for $79. They come in 4 colors: black, red, pink and green. Remember, these are ONLY compatible with iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S.  The Dot will make a great holiday present and you could even upload your festivities with Dotspot! See?! How could you say no to that?!

You can learn more about Kogeto and the Dot on their Facebook and Twitter pages, as well as their blog on Tumblr.

*Thanks to Kogeto, I received a Dot for review but all opinions are my own.*
