10 Breastfeeding Essentials

Welcome to Jessica’s Top Thursday. Each week, I will feature a new Top Trend, Top 10 or Top List. I will mention some of our favorite items, tips, ideas, recipes and more. Enjoy! To see my previous Top Thursday posts, click here.

In honor of World Breastfeeding Week, I have decided to focus my Top 10 Thursday on Breastfeeding Essentials for every new mom.

1. Boppy

The Boppy Pillow has become the essential, must-have item for every new mom.

It’s no wonder! The Miracle Middle stretch panel stretches to fit most waists. And with so many slipcover fabrics, you can match your nursery, home, or personal style.

For baby’s first months, our Newborn Lounger is uniquely designed with a recessed interior perfect for baby’s bottom. Baby has an ideal place to lounge safely while mom’s hands are free to take more photos!

2. Lactation Cookies

Lactation cookies are one of the yummiest ways to try and increase your supply. Most moms fear their supply will dwindle and they will be forced to supplement. Before you lose all hope, try making these delicious cookies. Shoot, you can even make them for your children and husband. The key ingredients are flaxseed meal, Brewers Yeast and oatmeal. You can always add other ingredients like coconut, walnuts, raisins, or anything that your heart…. and taste buds desire.

4. Support!

This may seem like a no-brainer, but support is so important. Whether that be from friends, family, online forums, lc’s etc. Having that support will help you tremendously throughout your breastfeeding adventures.

5. Baby Bix

Baby Bix is an iPhone App that allows you to keep track of everything. Keep track of sleep, pumping, bottles, diapers, journals, firsts, breastfeeding, food, medicine, growth and more! Whether you have an iPhone or not, keeping track of pumping, feedings and more is super important and will help keep you sane.

6. Tank Tops

I lived in tank tops during my breastfeeding days. They are easy, comfortable and really, sometimes that’s all you need. Back when I was breastfeeding, I had not heard of Undercover Mama, which turns any shirt into a nursing shirt. So clever.

7. Mother’s Milk Tea

Organic Mother’s Milk promotes healthy lactation* and is traditionally used to increase breast milk production.* This traditional combination of anise, fennel and coriander has been used for centuries by European women, often recommended by lactation counselors and medical herbalists. Organic Mother’s Milk is a pleasantly aromatic balance of sweet, spicy and slightly bitter tastes.

8. Milkies/Pads

As Emily mentioned previously, Milkies is fabulous for breastfeeding mama’s. Their patented design allows you to breastfeed anywhere without worrying about embarrassing leaks or uncomfortable nursing pads. Slim and portable, no one will even know you are wearing it. Best of all it collects your leaking breast milk when you nurse, allowing you to store extra breast milk effortlessly.

9. Nightlight

This may seem silly but a nightlight will be your new best friend. You will often find yourself up in the middle of the night for those nighttime feedings. Instead of stumbling around, invest in a small nightlight to help guide the way. I may even suggest a Twilight Turtle! Automatically shutting off after 45 minutes, this turtle is very dim yet relaxing.

10. The First Years Soothing Breast Wipes

A baby’s butt isn’t the only thing that needs a little wiping now and then. These breast wipes are perfect for the breastfeeding mama.

I would have died without Lansinoh when I was nursing my babies!!! My little one is 2 and still uses the boppy as a pillow when lounging around.
