Hemorrhoid Pain
More people have hemorrhoids than you might have thought. Though hemorrhoids flare up occasionally, they can cause a lot of pain and discomfort. Yet, with some medicine and a change in diet, you can manage hemorrhoids well.
That is why hemorrhoids that are unresponsive to treatment can be disconcerting. It may not be hemorrhoids at all but a rare form of Crohn’s disease. About 30 percent of Crohn’s patients get flare ups that only affect the anus. During these flare ups, growths can form that are similar to ulcerations or sores that are mistaken for hemorrhoids.
This severe form of Crohn’s has a poor prognosis if left untreated. The sores may erupt into fissures, lead to obstructions, and even prompt colorectal cancer. So, if you are having such an issue, get tested for Crohn’s. The test involves a white blood cell count and some other blood work.
