Red Lines Under Fingernails
We have previously mentioned that the look and shape of your fingernails can say a lot about your health. If you see tiny hemorrhages beneath the finger and toenails but haven’t bumped into anything lately, something is wrong. Those red streaks beneath the nails are called splinter hemorrhages; they are from broken blood vessels beneath the nail after blood clots damage the capillaries. Seeing that could mean a condition called endocarditis.
Endocarditis is the result of bacteria or pathogens entering from somewhere else in the body, traveling up the bloodstream, and attaching to your heart’s valves. In the earliest stages, endocarditis is highly treatable with antibiotics. If left untreated, though, the condition could become life-threatening.
