Now that Miles is getting bigger, Hubby and I wanted to get him a bike he can ride around the neighborhood.

The normal choice for a child his age (19 months) would be a tricycle or a small bike with training wheels, but I found a bike that really seems to excel above all the others I checked out.

The Zum Balance Bike is a two wheeled bike with no pedals. Essentially, it is an all in one bike that teaches your child to ride a two wheel bike without any training wheels!! Their website claims “If you can walk, you can ride”

Here’s what else they say:

“Balance Bikes by Z M have no pedals and no training wheels. The Z M Bike uses a foot to floor motion as a means of propulsion. The Bike is perfect for developing coordination and balance without the anxiety of training wheels. By learning balance first, the transition from the Z M Balance Bike to a traditional geared bicycle with pedals is made VERY easy.”

We got our box in the mail, and I was so excited (as were the twins I nanny…they were going to try it out to “make sure it was safe for Miles”)

It comes in only a few extremely easy to put together parts with simple instructions.

The bike is made for taller kids, and you are able to flip over the body for smaller children to use. This is where my one complaint comes into play. I was under the impression that was an easy transition, but it takes a lot of work and strength. Both Hubby and I had trouble with it. Luckily, you only have to switch it once or twice.

Here’s the bike in “Big Kid mode”

And once switched into “Little Kid mode”!

Looks great, right?! We’ve had multiple moms stop us to ask about our cool looking bike! And, it rides better than it looks!

Miles loves it!!! We had to start him off by holding on as he walked the bike.

But after only a few outings, Hubby let go, and Miles kept going!

He still is awkward on it, and his balance isn’t perfect, but after only a little over a month this bike is really impressing me! Can’t wait to show you all pictures and video once he’s taking off!!!

The twins took turns trying it out, as well! They are both 5 and LOVED it!

G took right off, running around with it, although timidly keeping her feet close to the ground.

J, who has had multiple special needs in the past, and has low muscle tone in his legs shocked me by figuring out the balance part quick! He didnt’ need me to hold on at all, but took his time to gain balance and eventually was riding with confidence.

The process seems to have taken more time with Miles (as do most things with a younger child.) but both of the older two had it all figured out in a matter of an hour or so! They’re bummed I had to take it home!

We love our new ZUM Balance Bike, and Miles asks for “Bike Time” every day!

***I did recieve a ZUM Balance Bike for review, but all the words written are my own opinion of a great product!***

Never would have thought something like this would be so helpful to little ones, but it makes sence. I’ll have to check this out for my 2 year-old.

We got Aiden a balance bike at Costco that is very similar to this one. We are giving it to him next month for his birthday but I’m glad to see that it’s as fun as it sounded!

We bought balance bikes for our twin 3 year-old boys recently. They love them! They are a great way to introduce little ones to big bikes!
